About Daffodil Day

What is Daffodil Day?

It’s a day for all of us to grow hope for a brighter, cancer-free future for ourselves, and for those we love. Daffodil Day merchandise is on sale throughout August, and you can donate to Daffodil Day at anytime. Every daffodil, every donation, grows hope; hope for better treatments, hope for more survivors, hope for a cancer-free future. No matter who you are, Daffodil Day is for you.

What is the official date of Daffodil Day 2012?

Daffodil Day officially falls on the fourth Friday in August each year. In 2012, Daffodil Day will be held on Friday 24th August.

Why daffodils?

The daffodil was chosen as the symbol of hope for all affected by cancer because of its reputation as a hardy annual flower, pushing its way through the frozen earth after a long winter to herald the return of spring, new life, vitality and growth.As one of the first flowers of spring, the daffodil symbolises rebirth and new beginnings. To Cancer Council, the daffodil represents hope for a cancer-free future.

What does Cancer Council do with the money raised from Daffodil Day?

Your donation will be helping Cancer Council raise much needed funds to support vital cancer research, develop cancer prevention programs, and provide patient support for the many Australian lives affected by cancer. Daffodil Day is run by Cancer CouncilFind out more on the how your money helps.

How can I register for Daffodil Day?

There are lots of ways you can get involved with Daffodil Day, the simplest being to purchase Daffodil Day merchandise during August, or make a donation. To do even more to fight cancer, you can order a Daffodil Day merchandise box to sell or volunteer your time on a stall on Friday 24th August. How can schools get involved?

There are two ways that schools can support Daffodil Day:
1. Dress Yellow For Daffodil Day - Wear yellow on Daffodil Day and have everyone make a gold coin donation.
2. Sell Merchandise - Special Daffodil Day discounted merchandise is available just for schools.

Buying Daffodil Day merchandise

Where can I purchase Daffodil Day merchandise?

The range of Daffodil Day merchandise can be purchased from our corporate partners or volunteer sites on Friday 24th August, and at some sites all through August.

What merchandise is available this year?

This year’s merchandise includes:

Pens ($6), Diamante brooches ($10), Key rings ($8), Yellow Lapel Pin ($5), Ball ($7), Gardener Dougal 10cm Bear ($10) and Large Gardener Bear ($30). You can also buy fresh daffodils.

Where can I purchase Dougal the Daffodil Day bear?

The very popular Dougal bear is available from volunteer sites on Daffodil Day, Friday 24th August. Be quick, as stocks are limited. To find your closest volunteer site location contact: 1300 65 65 85 or email your state.

Where can I buy fresh daffodils?

Fresh daffodils are sold on Daffodil Day - Friday 24th August - at volunteer sites in major shopping centres or railway stations across the country. You can also buy fresh daffodils from major retailers such as Coles who donate a percentage of sales to Cancer Council.

 

Selling Daffodil Day Merchandise

What can I expect to receive when I place an order for a Daffodil Day box?

You will receive a Daffodil Day merchandise box.

To help your fundraising efforts you’ll also be given an event poster, banking details and event information.

How long does it take for the merchandise I ordered to arrive in the post?

You can expect to receive your merchandise 3 to 4 days after registration. 

I have my merchandise box, when should I start to sell the merchandise?

You can start selling your merchandise as soon as you receive it. While the official date of Daffodil Day is the Friday 24 August, merchandise is sold throughout the month of August.

I’m nearly out of Daffodil Day merchandise! Can I order more?

You can order additional merchandise online or by calling 1300 65 65 85.

How do I return the funds I have raised to Cancer Council?

Daffodil Day merchandise should be returned to your state or territory member of Cancer Council. All addresses are listed on the contact details page.

 

Volunteering to help out on Daffodil Day

How can I volunteer for Daffodil Day?

Cancer Council requires thousands of volunteers to assist with the preparation of the event and on the day itself. If you have some time (as little or as much as you can spare) please register online or by calling 1300 65 65 85.

 

Is my online donation tax deductible?

Yes, all donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible. Simply fill in all the requested details when making an online donation (including a valid email address), and you will automatically receive an official tax receipt from Cancer Council.

Is your online fundraising system secure?

Every payment made on our online fundraising system is fully secured, using high-level encryption technology – the same standard most Australian banks use for their internet banking.
The site uses 128 bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) between your browser and our website, with 1024 bit java encryption between our website and the Australian Banking Network. You have more chance of having your credit card details misused when paying for something in person, than through our online fundraising website.

Does the site accept overseas donations?

Yes – with online fundraising, there are no geographic limitations. You can donate from interstate and overseas.

Is there a minimum amount I can donate?

No, there is no minimum amount for online fundraising, however please note that you will only receive a tax receipt for donations of $2.00 or more.

How do I know if my donation was successful?

If you have provided a valid email address when making an online donation, you will receive a tax receipt via email shortly after you complete your donation.

What types of payment do you accept?

Our online fundraising system accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners cards. In some cases American Express and Diners cards may not be available in your state.

What if I have entered the incorrect amount for my donation?

All donations are in Australian Dollars.If you accidently donate an incorrect amount via credit card please contact 1300 65 65 85 and we will refund the requested amount to the credit card used to make the original donation.
