About
Cancer Council

Cancer Council is Australia’s leading cancer charity, working across every aspect of every cancer. Every day, we support families affected by cancer when they need it most, speak out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, empower people to reduce their cancer risk, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

With your help, we’re getting closer to a cancer free future every minute, every hour, every day.

Life-saving cancer research

Thanks to generous Australians like you, around $60 million is invested every year into world-class cancer research into the early detection, prevention and treatment of all cancers. This research is saving lives. Today more Australians are surviving a cancer diagnosis – with the five-year survival rate now 69% - up from 48% in the 1980s.

Support for people impacted by cancer

A cancer diagnosis is challenging and produces a range of emotions. Thanks to your generous donations, everyone affected by cancer has access to Cancer Council’s support services, so that no one need face cancer alone. Last year our experienced cancer nurses helped thousands of Australians in their time of need, answering over 47,000 calls through our 13 11 20 information and support line.

Prevent cancer before it starts

One third of all cancers can be prevented. That’s why your support is invested in cancer screening to detect cancer early and to improve outcomes and education programs like SunSmart, Quit and LiveLighter that empower people to lead healthier lifestyles to help reduce their cancer risk.
