We were incredibly lucky with the weather for our icy dip in
front of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club. The evening was beautiful—calm, golden
and almost suspiciously perfect for voluntarily throwing ourselves into
freezing water.
The water, however, had other ideas.
It was icy. Our legs went numb with impressive
speed, and within moments we were questioning every decision that had brought
us to the shoreline. Still, there was no turning back. We had come this far,
and there were daffodils involved.
So, with flowers in hand, we took a deep breath, threw
ourselves backwards into the water, launched daffodils dramatically into the
air and screamed.
And what a scream it was. Equal parts terror, excitement,
shock and pure exhilaration.
For a few glorious seconds, we were airborne, surrounded by
flying yellow flowers, before hitting the icy water with the enthusiasm of
people who had clearly lost their minds.
It was absolutely exhilarating.
There is something wonderfully ridiculous about an icy dip.
That's exactly what made it so memorable. Not to mention the generosity of
everyone who donated to support our team effort. We raised an amazing $11,000.
Go team!
