This Daffodil Day, I’m fundraising in honour of my brother and my dad.
My big brother, Ben, has a grade 4 astrocytoma, an exceedingly rare cancer in people with Down syndrome. While people with Down syndrome are prone to leukaemia, they experience significantly fewer solid tumours than the general population. High-grade gliomas like Ben’s are so rare that only a handful of cases have been described in the medical literature.
My dad, Graeme, has bile duct cancer — a rare cancer affecting just 1–2 people in every 100,000. He is now in his 7th year, continuing to defy the odds and showing us every day what strength and determination looks like.
Having cancer touch two people I love so deeply has made me realise just how much we still don’t know — and how urgently we need better research, treatments and hope for families facing cancer.

Both boys love the water, so you'll find me swimming laps at the Fitzroy pool on their behalf.
