Dazza & Chantelle - Bringing Daffodil Day Out Bush 2025

By Dazza Join Me

Together we are creating a cancer free future.

We are fundraising for Daffodil Day, to support advancements in life-saving cancer research.

Hello everyone,

This year for Daffodil Day, my cousin Chantelle and I are working together to raise funds for this cause, which affects many people, including family members, friends, and others.

Cancer is a widespread condition that can lead to different outcomes, such as recovery, loss, or ongoing uncertainty.

Dazza: This disease has deeply affected me, especially after my best mate Steve was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach and liver cancer in 2017. Despite his resilience, I lost him just over a year later. I also lost two other close friends, Baz and Dane, so I honour their memories every year through this effort.

Chantelle: In March 2016, my father-in-law Peter was diagnosed with prostate cancer but recovered thanks to advanced medical treatment.

In 2020, my friend Allyson ("mum" to me) was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away three months later and recently, my colleague Shane learned he needs kidney cancer treatment, with more tests pending.

In addition to Daffodil Day this year, we'll be "Bringing Daffodil Day Out Bush 2025" to Kellerberrin—my old hometown and Chantelle’s—on Saturday, 23rd August.

You can support us by donating to help create a cancer-free future for all Australians. Your contribution funds towards vital cancer research and making a meaningful difference is very much appreciated.

Thank you all for your support.

Kindest regards

Dazza & Chantelle

My Story & Why I Do Daffodil Day

Sunday 13th Jul

Hi everyone,

This is my story and why every year I get into my now iconic yellow suit to support Cancer Council WA’s Daffodil Day Appeal.

It starts in 2017 when my best mate, Steve found out the devastating news that he had stage 4 stomach and liver cancer and given 3 weeks to live.

It was news that totally shocked us and we couldn’t believe.  Steve was a multiple Ironman and only just a few weeks prior to receiving this news had completed another Ironman event in Busselton, hard to believe.

But in true Ironman spirit that Steve had, he fought a strong battle against the odds and had chemo treatments and was able to stay with us all for just over 12 months when he sadly lost his battle.

I miss my best mate very much, our friendship began when we first joined the Roysl Australian Navy as 16yr old boys and as WA country boys realised we knew each other from our country schools playing inter school footy against each other and instantly became good friends, a friendship that spanned over 37yrs and being best mates.

In 2017 when Steve was first diagnosed, Cancer Council WA was looking for volunteers for their Daffodil Day Appeal with the slogan “For Someone I Know” which was me so I became a volunteer. Steve was so proud of me and that Daffodil Day Appeal I was at Livingstone shopping centre and Steve so wanted to join me but was having chemo that morning and knowing how he felt after let me know he probably wasn’t going to be able to make it.

To my surprise he did make it.  I wasn’t aware and my daughter in law Megan was taking photos and saw Steve and his beloved wife Trish approaching and kept taking photos when I felt someone hug me from behind, I turned with no idea who it was and when I turned and saw Steve, we both had tears and also laughed at same time with how much it meant to us both.

This photo has been used quite often by Cancer Council WA with my story and why Ido Daffodil Day Appeal every year and in memory of my dearest and best friend.

Sadly enough I have also lost another 2 good mates to this horrible disease, Dane Alderson whom was also a mate of Steve's, we all joined Navy together in same intake and  Barry "Bazza" O'Neill a fellow Navy Cook, so I also do Daffodil Day in their memory.

This is my ninth year of being a Cancer Council WA Volunteer something that means a lot to me and even having the honour of being an Ambassador for Daffodil Day and every year I hear of people’s stories, sad from losing their beloved ones, thankful stories of loved ones surving this horrible disease and also of those who themselves have won their battle or going through their own battle and this is why I do what I do every year for all those in the hope that one day with all much needed funds raised for cancer research to help all Australians that one day we will find a cure.

Thank you to my Supporters
