This August, I’m diving into the ocean every single day for 31 days as part of the Dip in August challenge — rain, hail or shine — to raise money for the Cancer Council. Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by 85. And for me, this one is very personal.
My dad is currently taking on stage 4 metastatic kidney cancer. Which, knowing my dad, he is approaching with the same quiet toughness (or stubbornness) he brings to everything in life.
Cancer has a way of shaking up your whole world without asking permission. It doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed, it ripples through your whole family. But so does the love and the rallying around them, and we have plenty of that.
The cold water every morning is going to be a shock to the system, I won’t lie. But it’s nothing compared to what my dad and so many Australians face every single day.
Every dollar raised goes toward research that could mean better treatments, more time, and more hope for families like ours.
