The funds I raise from my Daffodil Day Dip challenge will help power world-class cancer research to save lives.
Throughout my life, I’ve walked alongside loved ones in their fight against cancer. From helping care for my aunt during her breast cancer battle when I was in primary school, to losing my grandma to leukaemia and another aunt to cervical cancer, cancer has touched my family deeply. Recently, one of my dearest friends—an international student like me—was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Her decision to return home to Indonesia for treatment broke my heart, but her strength inspires me every day. Cancer is a non-communicable disease, yet it often lurks in the background of our minds—we don’t think it will happen to us. But it can, anywhere, anytime, at any age. As international students, we already face many challenges, and health risks like cancer often get overlooked. This fundraiser is dedicated to my best friend, who is bravely fighting to come back stronger, and to raise awareness among fellow international students: we are not immune. I’m also grateful to the Australian healthcare professionals who supported her in getting early detection and care when finances and insurance couldn’t. Your support means the world—thank you for helping make a difference. 💛
