Three years ago, we lost Dad to brain cancer.

It took away someone who should still be here to celebrate life’s big moments with us.

This August is a month filled with mixed emotions. On 20 August, it’s Daffodil Day, a day that raises much-needed funds for cancer research and support. Just two days later, on 22 August, my beautiful sister Aimee will marry Ryan. While it will be one of the happiest days for our family, there will also be a space at the table that can never truly be filled.

So, I’ve decided to do something that pushes me well outside my comfort zone.

Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely hate swimming in cold water! But this year, I’ll be taking a cold dip for Daffodil Day. The shock of cold water is nothing compared to the courage shown every day by people living with cancer, those undergoing treatment, and the families that support them.

This swim is for Dad. It’s for Aimee. It’s for the heartbreak of cancer, and for the hope that one day fewer families will have to deal with it.
